Faq

Why are so many features missing (sidebar, subpages menu) or limited (no threaded comments)? The main goal was to make an ‘uncluttered’ theme. Please don’t forget what is it about? Well, it is about you, your posts and the comments of your readers. If you’d like to have a sidebar or other features, I recommend you to choose another theme.

How wide is the area the posts and pages are placed? 500 pixels wide.

In what order will the pages menu in the header show up? It will show up in the order you can specify. If you don’t specify it, it will show in the order of when which page is created.

Which color is used for the blue background, the links and so on? Dark blue background (#1D2C32) & links (#246883) & text color (#444444) & gray (#959595) & light gray (E1E1E1)

I have discovered that you can easily improve the navigation links “Older Posts” and “Newer Posts” by giving them an arrow which is not pointing to the left or the right, but to the bottom for older or more posts and to the top for newer posts.

When the arrows are pointing to the left or the right I tend to become a bit confused. It makes me think of going a page back in stead of opening a new page to take a look at the older posts.

1. “Smooth” Titles

All the titles (title of the blog, posts and in the sidebar) look smooth. Some were worried that it was bad for SEO, but I guarantee it is not. The technique I use (Cufón) doesn’t replace the text with an image but it goes over the normal text. If you’re using a lot of titles, it might load a bit slow in Internet Explorer 6 but that should not harm the experience.

Not every language is supported (only languages with English like characters so Japanese and Arabic like languages are not supported), if yours doesn’t show up properly or you don’t like it at all you can just turn it off (Admin Area > Appearance > Fazyvo Options).

2. Change the Look of Fazyvo easily

When you go to the Fazyvo Options page (Admin Area > Appearance > Fazyvo) you have besides a few options also a few visual options. The theme includes a few options which enable you to change the header, the color of titles and links and the favicon. You can choose between a few presets which allow you to make the theme more personal, more fitting to your needs.

Following on this tutorial, I will write a tutorial on how to access your WordPress installation installed via MAMP on your MAC in a virtual machine for cross browser testing. I’ll refer to this tutorial.

      Step 1: Download MAMP

      Download and install the free version of MAMP.

      Step 2: Set MAMP preferences

      If you fire up MAMP, go to Preferences > to the tab Ports and click on “Set to default Apache and MySQL posts”. After you did this go to http://localhost/ and a directory page should show up unless you have something installed in htdocs.

      This step is very important, otherwise, WordPress won’t work in your virtualmachine.

      MAMP > Preferences

      Step 3: Checking the address of your MAC

      Go to System Preferences > Network > Airport when using a wireless metwork or if you’re not connected to a wireless network to System Preferences > Network > Ethernet. You’ll find your local ip-address there. Copy it. Yes, I know, my installation of MAC is Dutch (not German!), but that doesn’t matter. Now quit and start MAMP. Open your browser and go to this address, in my case http://192.168.178.32/.

      Step 4: Install WordPress in MAMP

      Download WordPress. Unzip the file. You have a folder WordPress now. Fire up the Finder and go to Applications > MAMP > htdocs and paste the folder WordPress to htdocs. Now go to the localaddress you found in Step 3, in my case: http://192.168.178.32/wordpress/. http://localhost/wordpress/ should work too, but if you want to access your WordPress installation in a virtualmachine too, you have to go to http://192.168.178.32/wordpress/. Click on “Create a Configuration File”.

      Click than on “Let’s go!”.

      Now you have to fill in your database information, but before you can do that, you have to make a database. Go to the main window of MAMP and click on “Open start page”. It will open a new tab in your browser.

      You can see the Host, the User and Password now. You’ll need them after we finished You can see on this page your Than click on ‘PhpMyAdmin’. Click on the image below for the reallife sized version.

      Now create a new database called “WordPress”. Click on the image below for a reallife sized version.

      After you did this, go to the tab where you are trying to install WordPress and change the following information and click on submit:

      • Database Name: WordPress
      • User Name: root
      • Password: root

      Step 4: Enjoy your WordPress installation!

      Now you installed WordPress! You have to run the setup, but that won’t probably be a problem.

      • I’ve found a serious bug which made the commentform buggy when a user is logged in.
      • It is for WordPress 2.8+ ONLY. WordPress 2.7.x is not supported any longer, if you want to use it for your WordPress 2.7.x blog, you can download the stable release Fazyvo 1.2
